AMY JO JOHNSON | 51

Who would forget Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? It became an instant rating hit for Fox Kids and a pop culture phenomenon that further added to young audiences’ need for Japanese-inspired entertainment.

Amy Jo Johnson made her acting debut in the role of Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger, which rocketed her to superstardom. But at the height of Power Ranger’s frenzy, the actress walked away after three seasons and two films. After quitting the show, she moved about in a couple of TV movies before applying for Felicity in 1998. Sure, she exchanged her pink spandex for a guitar and investment home in Canada, but it was there that Johnson found her love for writing and directing independent films that only she could produce. At the same time, Power Rangers reclaimed its status as a blockbuster series. We may witness the first Pink Ranger fight again.
