Phoebe Cates is most known for her notable part in an iconic teen film from the 1980s, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. You might also remember her as the wife of Oscar winner Kevin Kline. Despite leaving a lasting influence on the film business, the 58-year-old actress has shied away from the limelight for decades.

Cates began her career as a model, appearing in publications such as Seventeen and Glamour. However, the actress claims she immediately discovered she didn’t enjoy the work. Cates instead chose to pursue a career in acting, making her big-screen debut in the 1982 picture Paradise. Following the success of  Fast Times at Ridgemont High, she starred in a slew of successful credits in the 1980s and 1990s, including Gremlins, Gremlins II, and Drop Dead Fred. However, she opted to leave acting in 1994 to focus on establishing a family with her husband.
